City of Punta Gorda gazebo repair engineering

Florida Engineering completed engineering for the City of Punta Gorda on a gazebo repair project addressing age-related deterioration and damage associated with Hurricane Milton. The assignment brought together structural evaluation, repair-versus-replacement assessment, and repair-plan development for an existing outdoor structure in Punta Gorda, Florida.

The challenge

The project scope called for evaluation of the existing structure and foundation, including column misalignment. A central question was whether the structure could be made plumb and structurally sound through repair, or whether replacement would be more practical.

The engineering scope

The scope included repair and rehabilitation cost assessment, comparison with replacement where needed, and construction plans and specifications for the selected approach. Design objectives included addressing observed damage, improving resistance to future wind events, and minimizing changes to the gazebo’s architectural character.

Project status

The engineering phase is complete, and construction remains in progress. The photographs document the existing structure; they are not photographs of completed repairs. Florida Engineering’s role is engineering and design, not construction or installation.
